SEELY PLACE SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION STARTS MONDAY
Release Date: October 22, 2016

JACKSON AVE RUTTED AND ROLLED PAVEMENT REPAVING TO START AROUND NOV 1

SEELY PL SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION STARTS MONDAY...JACKSON AVE RUTTED AND ROLLED PAVEMENT REPAVING TO START AFTER NOV 1

The Town of Greenburgh Engineering / Public Works Department is planning to repair the rutted and rolled pavement on Jackson Avenue in the vicinity of the intersection with NYS Route 9A (Saw Mill River Road) with new, stronger asphalt intended to reduce the likelihood of the pavement again rutting and rolling.  The likely cause of the problem, we believe, is the failure of the original pavement design and placement to anticipate the volume and type of traffic now experienced at this intersection.  Our engineers plan to have the existing asphalt removed down to the original concrete roadbed, and then place new asphalt in several lifts formulated with high strength additives to enhance the durability of the asphalt to resist the forces of friction from the weight of the passing vehicles.

A contractor is selected and now we are waiting for confirmation from the asphalt plant that it has received the required higher grade asphalt material before we can set a firm construction date.  Prior to the work start, the Town will have variable message boards placed at key locations along Jackson Avenue and 9A to alert motorists of expected delays as the work will necessitate the partial closure of Jackson Avenue when an exact start date is confirmed.

We are expecting the work will commence the week of November 1st, but cannot confirm this until the asphalt plant advises they have received all the necessary material to produce the required asphalt.

The greatly anticipated start of construction for the Seely Place sidewalk is now set for Monday, October 24.

The first part of the work is saw cutting of the street to facilitate the removal of some of the asphalt so excavation for the sidewalk and curb placement can proceed.  We advised the contractor not to begin any work until 8:45 AM, to avoid conflicts with the morning drop-off.  The Town will have a staff inspector on the site to monitor the work.

While the morning work is being delayed to after the usual morning drop-off period, some delay may still occur as the contractor is reviewing the work.  We do expect some impacts to the afternoon traffic.  We do ask all who travel Seely Place to anticipate delays both in the morning and afternoon and recommend you adjust your schedules accordingly.

It's our goal to make Greenburgh a more pedestrian friendly community. We hope that this new sidewalk will encourage more sidewalks to be built in town. If, during the construction period, there are any issues or concerns - please feel free to reach out to me. I always respond to calls and e mails almost immediately.

Thank you for your cooperation.

PAUL FEINER
