HASTINGS ON HUDSON RESIDENT PURCHASING LAND FROM TOWN SO CHILDREN CAN WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL ON A PATH TOWN CURRENTLY OWNS..
Hallie Anderson of Hastings on Hudson is a role model for our community! Earlier this year she contacted me expressing interest in purchasing a small parcel of land (lot 4.140-151-81) for the sole purpose of creating and maintaining a foot path for the children of Marianna Drive in Hastings to use as safe passage to and from school. Without a path through these woods, the children are either forced to walk along Tompkins Ave (blind curve and no sidewalks) and James Street (no sidewalks and heavy morning traffic as commuters cut through Hastings on their way to work in Yonkers), which is 4/10 of a mile longer and infinitely more dangerous. Or, of course, they can be driven, which is not as favorable to their health, or that of the environment.
The children of Marianna Drive have used these woods as a way to school for 60 years, and she just wants to enable them to safely do so in the future. The Town Board will sell her the property for $2000 at our meeting on Monday night at 7:30 PM.
Hallie's efforts is timely since the town of Greenburgh is planning a major effort to build sidewalks near schools. We want to make Greenburgh a more pedestrian friendly town!
Resolution to be voted on Monday night:
Resolution authorizing the sale of a sliver of Town Owned Property (Lot 4.140-151-81), located behind 21 Marianna Drive in the Village of Hastings for $2,000 dollars, for the purpose of creating and maintaining a foot path for the children residing near Marianna Drive to use as safe passage to and from school
