I will be introducing a resolution at tonight’s Town Board meeting that will allow the Town to apply for a grant to study sharing police services with the Village of Dobbs Ferry.
The Dobbs Ferry Village Board last night unanimously passed a resolution in support of the study and the application for the Shared Municipal Services Incentive Grant Program, which will look at the implications of sharing police services. We believe sharing police services between the Town and Dobbs Ferry could realize benefits to both communities. Dobbs Ferry has asked the Town to be the Lead Applicant Contact Agency for this grant.
Our goal is to provide a significant cost savings while providing more efficient police services for the Town and Dobbs Ferry. Councilwoman Eddie Mae Barnes, the Town Board’s liaison to the Police Community Advisory Board, and I have been working with both police departments over the last several months to help bring this study about. We have been working with the Dobbs Ferry and Greenburgh police unions and they have expressed support for the study.
We are also considering a similar grant that will allow the Town Assessor’s office to share services with the villages. The grant would provide enough money for the implementation of this project. This measure will improve efficiency for residents while also saving them money. Our Assessor has been in touch with the various villages and several have expressed serious interest.
