“THE ROCHAMBEAU RAMBLE”
The Greenburgh Department of Parks & Recreation and the Greenburgh
Greenway Committee are again co-sponsoring this popular event which includes
a guided tour of the grounds of the historic Odell House – Rochambeau Head-
quarters property at 425 Ridge Road in the Hartsdale area. After a brief talk by
Robert J. Stackpole, President of the N.Y. Chapter of the Sons of the American
Revolution, the guided walk will continue through the lovely grounds of Hart’s
Brook Park & Preserve, the former Gaisman Estate. See details below:
THE ROCHAMBEAU RAMBLE - This walk on a
wooded trail to the historic Odell House property in Green-
burgh celebrates the 226th anniversary of the Philipsburg
Encampment. The early 1700’s tenant farmhouse served as
headquarters for French General Rochambeau for six weeks
in 1781 while George Washington and his army camped less
than a mile away. At the site, Robert J. Stackpole, President
of the New York Chapter of the Sons of the American Revo-
lution, will describe life in the encampment, the strategies
used to deceive the British Command in New York City, and
the historic decision to break camp and march to Yorktown,
Virginia. An update on the Odell House restoration will also
be given. Your walk continues through the lovely grounds
of the Hart’s Brook Park and Preserve, the former Gaisman
Estate, where you will learn about the Preserve and plans for a
Greenway Heritage Trail connecting to other important sites.
Approx. 2 miles. Easy- moderate. Sat. 9/29, 1:30 pm. I-287 to
Exit 4 to Rt. 100A south towards Hartsdale in Greenburgh;
Right at Ridge Rd. for approx. 1 mile to Ridge Rd. County
