MAJOR BIOMED GROUNDBREAKING IN GREENBURGH OR REGENERON TODAY
Release Date: April 12, 2007

Greenburgh was the site of a major ground breaking ceremony  at the Landmark at Eastview. Ground was broken for a world class laboratory and office complex that will be a new corporate headquarters and research development facility for Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Regeneron will lease a majority of the new 360,000 square foot $145 million facility, with the remaining state of the art laboratory and office space available for future tenants.

I had the opportunity to speak at the ground breaking ceremony. This is a very significant groundbreaking for the town. Greenburgh, Westchesterand NYS officials worked hard to discourage Regeneron from leaving our community and relocating to another state. The company employs more than 450 people. It is a leading company that develops drug candidates for the treatment of cancer, eye and other diseases.

The ceremony was one veryof the most inspiring ceremonies I have ever attended. Leonard Schleifer, President of Regeneron, read a letter from a patient whose medical condition has improved as a result of medication developed by Regeneron. The letter made me reflect – this is not only about jobs, economic development, taxes. It’s also about a company that has helped save lives.
