Tree replacement program
Release Date: March 21, 2007

Tree clearing on Sprain and Ridge Road by Con Ed  on town right of way is having an impact on the environment and quality of life. The loss of trees could have an impact on soil erosion, street flooding. I contacted Con Ed earlier today and urged Con Ed to plant some low growing trees. The removal of trees is having a quality of life impact on our community. I am also going to ask the town attorney to provide the Town Board with a legal opinion on whether or not the town can insist on tree plantings to replace trees on land owned by the town. This is going to become a bigger issue in coming months --much of the tree clearing and tree cutting around town will take place later this summer.
On another matter ---at the Town Board meeting on Wednesday night March 28th at 7:15 PM there will be an update re: library construction--status of the geothermal contracts and the reading room area for library patrons. I have asked that the auditorium of the town hall be converted into a reading room area - with magazines, newspapers, periodicals.
FINALLY- THE PHONE SYSTEM AT TOWN HALL WAS NOT WORKING OVER THE WEEKEND. MY ANSWERING MACHINE RECORDED ABOUT 50 CALLS -BUT I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND ANY OF THE MESSAGES, DUE TO TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES. PLEASE CALL AGAIN, IF I DID NOT RETURN YOUR CALLS. I ALWAYS MAKE IT A POINT TO CALL EVERYONE BACK THE SAME DAY.
