INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THE THEODORE YOUNG COMMUNITY CENTER

As part of our 2007 budget discussion I have been highlighting interesting info about town dept’s. Today: The Theodore Young Community Center.  For more info about the programs offered by the community center call 989- 3600. Hope you find this informative.

PAUL FEINER

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM – serves of 150 children, grades K-8

Homework/tutoring assistance offered.

ARTS PROGRAM serves over 500 patrons. Classes include African dance, ballet, creative movement, hip hop, cartooning, young filmmakers. There is a Youth Performance company – TYT Theatre and Westchester Latin Dance program.

SUMMER CAMP- 500 children served annually.

SPORTS & Recreation—over 500 young people take advantage of physical fitness, sportsmanship. Programs: Mighty Tots basketball; Boys & Girls Basketball Travel team; Basketball Clinic; Football Teams (3-6th grades), cheerleading, boys High School basketball; Youth Bowling Program; Alston Drum Corp; roller Skating; Karate.

Special Projects by NY Knicks and NY Liberty Basketball organizations.

AQUATICS - The Theodore Young Community Center has an indoor pool. The pool serves children from 6 months to senior citizens.

Over 600 children and teens are registered in the Aquatics Program. Fast Swim Team competes locally and nationally. There are Parent-tot swim, weekday and Saturday Young instructions; pre school swim and life guard training programs.

COMPUTERS: Computer room also enables after school children who may not have computers at home a safe place for homework help and research.

ADULT PROGRAMS

ARTS—Belly Dance, African dance and salsa dance programs. Cultural Field trips. Annual recitals and community programs.

Over 300 adults take advantage of sports and recreation programs. Women’s fitness, weight room, adult touch football, karate.

COMPUTER INSTRUCTION – Adult computer time introduction to windows and word processing.

AQUATICS- Adult swim instruction. Early & Mid Morning Water exercise. Evening water aerobics. Water Wellness Class. Multiple Sclerosis Exercise. Lap swim. Adapted aquatics. Life Guard Training course.

SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMS- Nutrition Program—nutritious lunch

Fairview Care—lunch and entertainment

Senior Net- A national program that teaches older adults how to use computers and software. TDYCC is an official SENIOR NET learning center.

Health & Fitness programs include yoga, adult fitness, bowling, golden ages lap swim and monthly foot doctor visits.

AARP Tax Aid and Defense Driving Programs.

TRIPS to Broadway musicals, dinner theaters, shopping/dining excursions. Over 150 trips scheduled for seniors yearly.

EVERGREEN CLUB: Asian American Club that offers Tai Chi, singing group, English instruction.

YIDDISH CLUB, BRIDGE CLUB, LIVE TOGETHER CLUB, PAINTING AND DRAWING CLASS CREATIVE ARTS
