Greenburgh Town Councilmembers Eddie Mae Barnes, Steve Bass, Diana Juettner, and Francis Sheehan announced today, July 17, 2006, the naming of Gil Kaminer as Town Council Aide.

Councilwoman Eddie Mae Barnes said, “We engaged in a six month long outreach and selection process because we wanted to select the most qualified person to assist us in serving the public. We have found that person.”

Mr. Kaminer comes to the newly created position after 18 months as the Edgemont/Hartsdale editor of The Scarsdale Inquirer, where he covered local news, including the Greenburgh library referendum and the Edgemont School District budget vote.  He received a 2006 New York Press Association award for his coverage of education and politics.

“We are delighted to be able to have someone as experienced as Gil in this important position,” Councilman Francis Sheehan said.  “Gil has a unique and valuable familiarity with the people, policies, and regulations of the town, as well as the day-to-day activities of the Town Council.  He will be able to effectively serve the Town Council, and therefore the public, on his very first day.”

The full-time Town Council Aide will run the office for the part-time Councilmembers and help coordinate their meeting schedules, handle correspondence, conduct background research for legislative initiatives, and keep the public informed of important activities.
