FRIENDS OF DOG PARK WEB SITE...VERIZON CABLE TV COMPETITION
Release Date: April 19, 2006

On Monday, April 24th there will be a community meeting sponsored by a new organization called FRIENDS OF RIDGE ROAD DOG PARK. The meeting will take place at VeteranTownPark, MultipurposeCenter, 11 Olympic Lane, Ardsley.  The meeting will take place at 8:15 PM. The group has a mission: to enrich the quality of community life through responsible pet care awareness and the establishment and maintenance of recreational areas where dogs and people can interact in a clean, safe, fun, friendly and pleasant environment. You can learn more about the group by visiting the web site: www.friendsofridgeroaddogpark.com.  Dog owners interested in creating a dog park should attend this meeting. The friends plan to raise funds to offset the maintenance costs of the park.  Last year the town received a $43,000 grant from State Senator Spano to establish a dog park. CountyExecutiveAndrew Spano offered to turn over land at RidgeParkto the town for such a park.

A number of residents have contacted me about cable TV competition. Last year we were advised that Verizon would be offering residents of Greenburgh cable TV service early this year.  We still do not have a franchise agreement or competition.  There is an interesting article in the Westchester County Business Journal (www.westchestercountybusinessjournal.com) that can be read on line about Verizon & about legislation before the Congress. The proposed legislation would reduce the influence local governments have on franchise agreements. I have been in touch with Verizon today and they advised me that they very much want to have a franchise with the town. They indicated to me that the proposed legislation before Congress is not slowing up the approval process.  I hope that an agreement can be approved soon so that residents of Greenburgh will have a choice.
