Last night I attended a reception at the New York School for the Deaf which is located on Knollwood Road. The school is celebrating 80 years in Greenburgh. The school does an amazing job providing those with hearing loss the opportunity to prepare for successful and rewarding lives. There's an interesting article written over a year ago in Westchester Magazine about the school. A link is below. At the reception last night Robert Davila, first deaf headmaster and Taras Denis (formerly of Elmsford), a former guidance counselor and alumni relations officer at the school, were honored (photos attached). When Taras lived in Greenburgh over 30 years ago he introduced me to the school and encouraged me to become an advocate for the work the school does. There have been so many advances over the past three decades -enabling those with hearing losses to enjoy a better life. Every two years I have held my swearing in ceremonies with newly elected Town Board members at the School. A photo of me at a swearing at a ceremony in the early 1990s is also attached. Very pleased that Greenburgh is the home of an amazing school that has touched the lives of so many children. Would welcome the opportunity for students from the school to be exposed to government and to serve as interns in Greenburgh town government. Enjoy the great music today. PAUL FEINER
