Free Tree Seedlings at Town Hall being given out---
Release Date: May 02, 2019

FREE TREE SEEDLINGS AT LOBBY OF TOWN HALL --

The Town of Greenburgh, courtesy of Con-Edison, has approximately 100 tree seedlings available in the main lobby of Town Hall, for anyone interested in planting a tree on their property. The species available are Blue Spruce and Eastern Red Cedar, both of which are evergreen trees that can grow 30-40 feet tall at full maturity.

The tree seedlings were generously donated by Con-Edison as part of the Town’s recognition of Arbor Day. On Sunday, April 28th, the Town planted a beautiful River Birch tree on the grounds of the Greenburgh Nature Center, as part of an Earth Day and Arbor Day event.

We ask that, if you come to pick up a tree, that you take only what you intend to plant, and that you plant the seedling(s) as soon as possible. The Town Forestry Officer suggests that you initially grow the tree(s) in a pot, water frequently (1-2 times per week), and place it where it can receive 4-6 or more hours of sunlight per day (evergreens prefer a lot of sunlight). Once the seedling develops into a small tree, it is recommended that you plant the tree in your yard, in a sunny location, keeping in mind that one day the tree will grow to 30-40 feet in height.

For more information, please feel free to email Aaron Schmidt, Deputy Commissioner & Town Forestry Officer, Department of Community Development and Conservation, at aschmidt@greenburghny.com.  Trees are being given out until we run out.
