This past weekend Bob Connick took me on a tour of an exhibit located at the headquarters of the Irvington Historic society at 131 Main Street, Irvington  (telephone 591 1020). Irvington is one of the six villages within the town of Greenburgh.  What a spectacular museum  - a must visit museum if you love local history.  The exhibit is open to the public on Thursday's and Saturday's from 1 to  4 PM.  If you are planning to visit one of the historic sites along the river add this to the tour.

Irvington is a charming and historic community. Among items at the exhibit that Bob Connick currated: a shirt belonging to Washington Irving. You will see a display wall presenting the early industries along the river: Lord & Burnham, JC Turner Lumber and Piermont to Irvington Ferry.  Another early industry: ice cutting on the river.

At the Warnock Gallery there is a timeline showing the history of Irvington. Sporting equipment, a history of some of the parks and a mannequin wearing a vintage wool bathing suit are featured at the exhibit. Learn how some of the parks came to be.

I loved the tour I went on and recommend it. You won't be disappointed.
