Today the Town Board heard a presentation by beekeeping enthusiast and entrepreneur Dylan Martin. Dylan Martin’s powerpoint presentation is attached. Presently, beekeeping in the Town of Greenburgh is prohibited, per the Zoning Ordinance. The keeping of honeybees is more commonly becoming a hobby and passion of people with this specific interest and people concerned about the national decline in honeybee populations. The Town Board will be receiving and reviewing additional information to better understand if a responsible removal of the restriction can be implemented. Setback and lot sizes are among some of the considerations to be researched. In addition, a pilot project at the Greenburgh Nature Center or at a park or  Town Hall may also be considered, which could act as an additional public educational component before we consider lifting restrictions.

At the work session today a group of student interns who are working at Town  Hall this summer expressed their views - two supported the beekeeping initiative, one had serious concerns. The students will be assisting the Town Board research the issue.
