A salute to three exceptional women who deserve our thanks for making our community better... Patricia Richards was honored at her retirement party this on Friday evening. She is retiring as the first women General Foreman of the Greenburgh Department of Public Works. Among her duties: overseeing buildings in our town. When Pat was first appointed as General Foreman -it was difficult. Her hard work, dedication and leadership skills persuaded some of the men who worked for her that she was the right person for the job. Pat has been employed with the town of Greenburgh for 17 years. In addition to her duties at Public Works, Pat has mentored the youth of our community, specifically within the Theodore Young Community Center. She has also devoted many hours helping the elderly. A few weeks ago an elderly man with medical issues advised me that he was snowed in. Pat brought him food. She's been an exceptional town employee who really cares. Madeline Paneto-Gonzalez, principal of the Alice E. Grady Elementary School in the Elmsford Union Free School District, was named Administrator of the Year during the fifth annual School Library Conference by The Southern Westchester BOCES School Library System. She actively supports library programs in schools such as author of the day, read to succeed. Midnight Run provides support to the homeless and hungry in NYC. Members of the Interfaith Caring Community in Greenburgh travel to NYC each week to provide help to those who have had bad luck with their lives. Alan Shapiro and Ardsley High School student Ilana Goldstein are organizing the fundraiser/ concert next week. AHS Jazz Band and the chamber orchestra will perform. A worthy cause.
