Free minnows today to reduce mosquitoes...fundraising concert tonight (Friday)
Release Date: May 17, 2013

Westchester County is giving out free minnows fish this week to help combat mosquitoes and the spread of the West Nile virus.
The fish, known as fathead minnows, eat young mosquitoes and will be available to residents who want to place them in ornamental ponds and other standing bodies of water. Westchester health officials will distribute minnows today (FRIDAY) at the county airport. The goal: to reduce the mosquito problem.
The fish should be released in water with a minimum depth of 8 to 12 inches.
The minnows will be distributed from noon to 6 p.m. at 2 Loop Road, Building One. The building is the first right from the airport access road.
