E. Hartsdale Avenue
Release Date: June 13, 2007

I asked the Building Inspector to provide me with an update of the status of the businesses on E Hartsdale Ave.I spoke to the owners of Bagels & More yesterday. They advised me that they hope to re-open on Saturday, pending Board of Health inspections. I spoke to Toby Ritter, landlord of the property that had been occupied by HSBC Bank. I asked if he would be interested in renting the space to the town for a temporary library. He indicated that he was not interested at this time –he is in discussion with potential tenants.

The following info was provided to me by the Building Inspector.

PAUL FEINER

Here is an update on the businesses that intend to come back on E. Hartsdale Avenue:

Westchester Cleaners-   power still out, awaiting electrician.

New York Sports Club-   demolition in basement complete, awaiting plans for building permit.

Hartsdale Farm-             demolition complete, awaiting electrician to complete work.  Opening in approximately 1 week.

KFung’s Restaurant-      demolition in basement complete, awaiting building plans for permit.

ACTION STEPS  WE ARE TAKING

1)       We sent Requests for Proposals to consultants to conduct a study of the causes of the flood –and to make recommendations. The RFPs are due back later this month. We will interview consultants, hire a firm.

2)       SIDEWALK SALES—the Town Board will be voting on a proposal (hopefully tonight) to allow sidewalk sales on E Hartsdale Ave

3)       JAZZ CONCERTS------jazz concerts on the avenue –every Saturday in July and August, beginning July 7th

4)       WAIVING FEES FOR CONSTRUCTION—the town waived building construction fees

A suggestion was made to place a banner on the avenue—announcing that the avenue is coming back. I discussed this with the Town Board yesterday. We were advised that the state will not allow us to place banners on the avenue.
