LIA'S RESTAURANT RE-OPENS WED...ART CLASSES AT RAD GALLERY ...flood study...the bank...E HARTSDALE
Release Date: May 23, 2007

East Hartsdale Aveis coming back! Lia’s, one of the best restaurants in Westchester, is re-opening on Wednesday. They were closed for weeks—because of the flood. Please visit the restaurant and welcome them back. They join the liquor store and Big Top –two outstanding businesses that are back in business.

RAD Gallery is also located on East Hartsdale Ave.Although they did not experience flooding damage—they suffered losses because of the inactivity on the avenue during the past few weeks. They have art classes for children, teens and adults and a great art school—just seconds from the train station. For information call 723-3131 or RADART@MAC.COM.

At tomorrow nights Town Boardmeeting I will be asking the Board to approve a resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to issue an RFP to firms that can assist the town  in determining the causes of the floodand to make recommendations as to action steps that can be taken to avoid a repeat flood. I’ve been on the avenue daily since the floodand am very impressed by the hard work and dedication of the business owners. The businesses that were out of commission for weeks can’t afford another loss.

I spoke to the landlord of the space, previously occupied by the bank (that has closed). He advised me that there is strong interest in the space. He wasn’t prepared to rent the vacant space to the town for a temporary library yet. Possibilities: Another bank.

I plan to ask some student interns to set up an EAST HARTSDALE AVEblog within the next few days –to promote the businesses on East Hartsdale Ave.I’m looking for volunteers to help us help the merchants promote their business and spread the word about E Hartsdale Ave.If you’d like to volunteer and be a volunteer reporter for the blog/web site – please e mail me at pfeiner@greenburghny.com. We want to do everything possible to help these businesses.

FINALLY---Mark Morganelliof jazzforumarts, and UniStar Credit Union (which is opening up a store on E Hartsdale Ave) will be sponsoring 8 jazz concerts on Saturday’s in July and August.

PS: On another matter—the
Town Boarddiscussed Con Ed’s tree cutting program with the NYS Public Service Commission and with Con Ed today. We also discussed the proposed legislation drafted by Mike Sigal and Dan Rosenblum, two members of the Conservation Advisory Council, that addresses the tree cutting issues. We will be having a follow up meeting with lawyers representing the NYS Public Service Commission and Con Ed this Friday at 3:30 PMat Town Hall. Our meetings are open to the public.
