Bass gets tax postponments for Greenburgh flood victims
Release Date: April 27, 2007

The Greenburgh Town Council, working with Assemblyman Richard Brodsky, announced today that Commissioner Barbara Billet of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance has postponed certain tax filing and payment deadlines for taxpayers affected by the April storm and the subsequent flooding.

Tax returns, including personal income tax, corporate taxes, sales tax and any other taxes administered by the Tax Department (minus a few exceptions) with a due date or extended due date falling on or after April 14 and before June 25 now have until June 25 to file the return and to pay any tax due.  Affected taxpayers who have an estimated tax payment originally due on or after April 14 and before June 25 will not be subject to penalties or interest as long as the payments are made by June 25.

This measure will ease the burden on our business owners and residents in the wake of the storm-related flooding of the last week.

Taxpayers who were directly affected by the April storm and are eligible for this relief include:

-        victims of the April storm

-        all workers assisting in the relief activities in Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties

-        any taxpayer whose records necessary to meet tax filing, payment or other deadlines are not available due to the April storm

-        taxpayers who have difficulty meeting deadlines because of disruptions in the transportation and delivery of documents because of the April storm

-        taxpayers whose tax practitioners were unable to complete work to meet deadlines on behalf of their clients.

The Town Council – Eddie Mae Barnes, Steve Bass, Diana Juettner, and Francis Sheehan – will continue to seek opportunities to ease the difficulties for residents and businesses affected by the storm.
