PROGRESS BEING MADE ON 9A BYPASS
Release Date: July 05, 2006

Over the years the town has pushed for a 9A bypass to reduce traffic congestion near the Elmsford 9A corridor. Last year I initiated a new lobbying effort that seems to be making some progress. County, state and local officials have been meeting and working cooperatively. I received the following e mail from Ed Buroughs of Westchester County with some good news. It's my hope that the state will also address the problems impacting The Ardsley section of town.

PAUL FEINER

The following is an excerpt from the e mail:

NYS DOT has advised us that the Route 9A work in the Elmsford vicinity is currently on the State program for construction in 2009.  We have also been advised of the following progress that has been made since our meeting:  a project consultant is back onboard; new traffic counts have been/are being gathered in the area; after completion of the counts, the intersection operations will be reviewed; and the consultant has obtained the latest accident data which will now be reviewed.

We have also been advised that NYS DOT is seeking to retain a consultant to look at the various Thruway interchange ramps and the other roadway connections that were discussed at the meeting.  A scope will be developed in consultation with the County and municipalities.

As it will be several weeks until the consultant(s) can assemble the information, we propose that it would be most productive to schedule the next update session after we have a target date for delivery of the consultant's first findings.  In the meantime, we will maintain contact with NYS DOT to ensure work is progressing.

Edward Buroughs, AICP, Deputy Commissioner
