NYSDOT Rt. 9A OVERPASS RECONSTRUCTION AND ROUNDABOUT PROJECT
Release Date: August 28, 2018

The New York State Department of Transportation recently began work on the Rt. 9A (Saw Mill River Road) overpass reconstruction and roundabout project. The project entails the creation of a new traffic roundabout at the current intersection of Old Saw Mill River Road and the Route 100C Rt. 9A overpass, and reconstruction of the overpass. The work currently taking place includes site preparation and utility construction, which will commence through the end of this year. For this phase of the project, lane consolidation will take place, resulting in minor delays. In 2019, the roundabout and overpass reconstruction will take place. A traffic re-routing plan will be put into effect at this time, as passage on Rt. 9A and east and west on 100C will be restricted in the area of the overpass. For the 2019 construction season, Route 9A northbound will use the off and on ramps, to and from Grasslands Road. Route 9A southbound traffic will remain on 9A, with potential alignment shifts as needed for construction stages. Additionally, for some nighttime construction work, bridge demo, steel erection, etc., the route 9A Southbound traffic will be routed off of 9A to Old Saw Mill River Road. There will then be a temporary ramp constructed so vehicles can get onto the Route 100C ramp, going down that ramp to return back to Route 9A Southbound. The detour of Route 9A southbound traffic will only occur at night.

Attached are images that show the eastbound and westbound detours. The westbound detour will make traffic turn onto Walker Rd - Dana Rd - Route 9A southbound - Old Saw Mill River Road off ramp. Eastbound detour will use the Route 100C ramp towards southbound 9A (this will be a one-way southbound for the length of the detour). A temporary signal will be installed at the bottom of the ramp and traffic will turn left onto 9A and back up the 9A off ramp onto 100C (Grassland Road).

A rendering of the proposed improvement is attached.
