Postal service delivery disruption notice...congrat's Shana Caro
Release Date: June 15, 2018

I have asked the postal service to advise me of possible delays or mail service disruptions. If mail is not going to be delivered to an area residents could visit the local post office and pick up the mail.  Or call the post office for further info.  I received the first memo earlier today.

Hopefully, residents will get mail every day. But if there are circumstances when mail can’t be delivered – we should be advised.  We’re going to test out this.

Good morning,

We have reports of the following street construction that can cause mail delivery disruptions. We will make every attempt to safely deliver mail. Customers may contact the Hartsdale Post Office if they have any questions 914-472-7164.

1 – 59 Fieldstone Drive

19 – 166 Harvard Drive, which can cause delays/disruptions to the sides streets off of Harvard Drive.

Congratulation’s Shana Caro on winning this prestigious honor! Shana is the granddaughter of Robert Caro, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of The Power Broker and four volumes of the Years of Lyndon Johnson.  Shana, a resident of Greenburgh is following in her grandfather’s footsteps!

Columbia University announced that at the scientific Oscars, its fellow "Shana Caro won the Thomas Henry Huxley Award & Marsh Prize from the London Zoological Society for the best thesis in the UK." Each university in the UK can submit one doctoral thesis for consideration.  "The Thomas Henry Huxley Award and Marsh Prize is presented for the best PhD thesis. This year’s winner is Shana Caro, University of Oxford, for her thesis ‘Social and environmental factors in the evolution of signalling’. This elegant thesis constitutes an extraordinary body of work. Shana has already published in top international journals, including a paper in Nature Communications, in which she shows that different signalling systems seem to be evolutionarily stable in different bird species, and describes how this is driven by ecological differences. Another paper, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, provides the first clear support for how sibling conflict can erode selection for honest signalling between offspring and their parents. Shana combines attention to detail with an understanding of the bigger picture, which is extremely rare in researchers at her career stage. Since completing her PhD, Shana has been awarded a prestigious fellowship from the Simons Foundation at Columbia University. We have no doubt that Shana will be at the very forefront of future research in behaviour and evolution, and it is our pleasure to present her with a cheque for £1000, kindly sponsored by the Marsh Christian Trust."

William Wayt Thomas is a resident of Hastings and a botanist with a very interesting career. He has spent much of his professional career exploring plant species in the coastal forests of northeastern Brazil. These forests are very biodiverse—with much more variety than we have here in Greenburgh. Thomas works at the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. The following link is from an interview I had with Mr. Thomas on my WVOX radio program.
