update: 3 sidewalks: Fair Street (Juniper Hill neighborhood walk on Sat AM), Central Ave & Columbia
Release Date: May 09, 2018

In recent years the town has overseen the construction of many new sidewalks: Benedict Ave, Seely Place, Fort Hill Road, a short portion of Secor Road, West Hartsdale Ave,  parts of Knollwood, Sprain Road among others. We’re continuing our initiative to make Greenburgh a more pedestrian friendly community. Here are three proposed sidewalks that have received funding in the budget. When a sidewalk is proposed we try reaching out to the community before construction begins. The walk on Fair Street Saturday complies with that practice. We previously conducted walks on Columbia Ave and on Central Ave.

Our sidewalk pedestrian safety initiative is ongoing. Every year we anticipate building more sidewalks in town. We want to make Greenburgh a safe place for children and adults to walk to and from.

SIDEWALK PLANNED IN JUNIPER HILL NEIGHBORHOOD—WALK WITH NEIGHBORS THIS SATURDAY AT 11 AM

On Saturday, May 12th at 11:00 AM, the Juniper Hill Civic Association and the Greenburgh Department of Public Works will conduct a Fair Street Walk-Through of the area where Fair Street will be repaved and sidewalks will be installed from Prospect Street to Juniper Hill Road. The DPW will be able to show homeowners how their properties will be affected, answer any questions, and discuss and potential problems.  Please tell everyone you know who lives on Fair Street about this important walk-through.

UPDATE STATUS OF SIDEWALK ON CENTRAL PARK  AVE – WEST HARTSDALE AVE TO MARION AVE

Last year the town received a major grant from NYS to build a sidewalk on Central Ave from W Hartsdale Ave to Marion Ave. At the Town Board meeting on April 25th we authorized a contract with the engineering firm Creighton Manning to undertake an engineering and surveying services for the sidewalk.  The company will suvey the area for the sidewalk followed by a sidewalk design for NYS DOT approval.  The goal is to have a fully engineered sidewalk approved before the end of this year. The bid process will be completed in advance of the 2019 construction season with a projected three month construction process set to begin in the spring—target date for complete July 2019.

UPDATE COLUMBIA AVE SIDEWALK

We will be constructing the sidewalk on Columbia Ave to East Hartsdale Ave this year. Will be a major enhancement to residents who want to walk to and from the train station.

WE WELCOME YOUR THOUGHTS –NEXT SIDEWALKS TO PLAN FOR!

We have a limited amount of money to spend but plan to appropriate funds annually for new sidewalks. Tell us where they should be located. We have a running list and hope to continue to make progress. Your safety is important.
