UPDATE ON AUCTION WE HELD EARLIER THIS WEEK-- The town held an auction of surplus properties that the town owns this Wednesday.  Winning bidders have till Monday to give the town a deposit. If  all of the properties sold at Wednesday’s auction of Town-owned surplus properties close within the 60 day time period, the Town will have generated 1.3 million before factoring in outstanding taxes and expense.  This is the second auction of town surplus properties in recent months. Today many residents of Greenburgh will be celebrating Good Friday. Tonight others will celebrate the beginning  of Passover.  During the religious holidays let's celebrate and thank those neighbors who devote their lives helping others.

In 1987 a public school art teacher and mother of three led a dozen student and adult volunteers into NYC late one Saturday on something called Midnight Run.  At that time their intention was to meet some strangers who could use a little attention and kindness and a warm meal. In 1989 Hastings High School (one of the school districts in Greenburgh) hosted the first thanksgiving dinner for the homeless. Art teacher Jeanne Newman personally welcomed each of the 125 homeless and working poor guests who had been bused into the city -a practice repeated each year.

Share the project does a lot more. This all volunteer non profit which is based n Hastings has a goal to involve high school students and youth in service events in their community. Thousands of students have experienced getting involved, learning what it can be to become an active member in today's society and promote a better one tomorrow.

Last Saturday was an epic day for SHARE. Despite the numerous difficulties in organizing a trip to Washington, they  made it, 50 strong and capable kids and adults, walking in solidarity with about 800,000 other citizens. Jeanne's partner Lisa O'Reilly and Jeanne  worked on this project despite the power outages of our recent storms and the downed Internet, and got the important word out to our students at Hastings High School and Dobbs Ferry High School, that they  were going to find a way to safely bring them to Washington to be part of the March For Our Lives movement. They raised the money to pay for their expenses and on Saturday morning, at 6:00 a.m., they greeted our group and headed to the Capital.

I'm enclosing some of the images that was taken to help record the day, as I am certain these kids will not forget the moment any time soon. Actually, I believe these kids and all of the other students we shared the day with, will long remember the day as one of peace and victory for the new-found youth voice. It was truly an astounding day.  Jeanne Newman, Founder and Executive Director,SHARE the Project, Inc.(affectionately still known as Project SHARE) has organized a model program that other localities hopefully will be inspired to consider having in their locality.
