Some encouraging news about the 9A bypass--bypass could be built in 2022!

RESPONSE FROM NYS FOR FOLLOW UP REGARDING PLAN TO EASE 9A TRAFFIC WITH A BYPASS

SOME VERY ENCOURAGING NEWS---BYPASS COULD BE BUILT IN 2022!

For many decades Greenburgh officials have been pushing for a 9A bypass that could ease traffic along 9A. If the 9A bypass is ever built (and we thought it would be built years ago) the project would be an enormous quality of life enhancement for thousands of motorists. A bypass road  would be built to divert trucks away from Route 9A.  We’ve been discussing this for decades and have come close to getting the road built in the past. We won’t give up until the bypass is built.  Below- please find links to two old articles from a few years back about our efforts and a more recent response from the NYS Department of Transportation that is encouraging.  Please note that the town has been placing millions of dollars in a special fund to cover some of the  costs of the 9A bypass, making the bypass more likely to happen.

The project is currently in the scoping phase, with preliminary design scheduled to begin in the fall 2018. If funding for construction can be identified, it is anticipated to have a bid opening in the winter 2021, with a spring 2022 anticipated construction start.
