MEET OUR NEW COUNTY EXECUTIVE ELECT NEXT WED AT TOWN BD MEETING..CLARIFICATION ON PRE PAYING TAXES
Release Date: December 07, 2017

I have invited Westchester County Executive-elect George Latimer to stop by at our Town Board meeting next Wednesday evening, December 13th. The new County Executive-elect expects to arrive around 8:15 PM. Because of his hectic schedule, I have advised his office that as soon as he arrives we will interrupt the meeting to provide him with an opportunity to officially introduce himself to the Town Board and to the community and to highlight some of his initiatives.

We wish the County Executive-elect great success in his new position and look forward to developing a great relationship.

Yesterday I suggested that residents who want to save money pre-pay the 2nd half of their school tax bill before the end of December in order to receive the tax deductions currently available. The US Senate and House of Representatives are considering legislation that will eliminate a good portion of the deduction in 2018.

I have also reached out to the Governor's office and have asked that the state consider emergency legislation that would authorize taxpayers to prepay a portion of the 2018 county, town, fire district taxes in 2017 so they could receive the deduction before it is eliminated by the President and Congress.  Am planning to attend a meeting in a few minutes with other municipal officials to discuss this.

I received some advice from residents who have more expertise dealing with taxes and accounting than I do. The gist: every persons tax situation is different. Before you decide to pay your school taxes in 2017 rather than in 2018, you might want to speak to your accountant.  Taxpayers who take advantage of the alternative minimum tax may not benefit by paying taxes early.  Everyone has unique situations that apply to their household and you should consult your own tax, legal and accounting advisors before engaging in any transaction.  I will continue to update you on legislative actions that could impact this matter.

PAUL FEINER
