new restaurant: Mariachi Loco II (complimentary appetizer or desert for Greenburgh residents)
Release Date: July 29, 2017

There is a new restaurant in town: Mariachi Loco II. The location: 706 Central Ave, at the shopping center next to the 24 Hour Fitness that is under construction (old Scarsdale A & P).  The restaurant just opened up. Lunch specials under $10. Portions are generous.

The owners already have a similar restaurant in White Plains that is very successful. They are waiting for a liquor license and have asked me to encourage residents to try their food and give them recommendations. Mention the Town of Greenburgh and you will receive a complimentary appetizer or desert.

The following girls are role models in our community. They are members of Troop #1923 and have been working hard to provide the children who attend the Lois Bronz Children's Center with school supplies. These girls decided that school is hard enough and that children should be able to learn without worrying about supplies required by schools and teachers.  The troop goal was to contribute 20 book bags full of supplies. They decided on a motto to be “helping kids learn one book bag at a time.”  A troop parent, Idanise Pagan  took this project on and partnered with the Lois Bronz Community Center to help them reach their goal.

The girls identified what supplies were needed, designed posters and flyers, and their wings opened and they soared into what has become such a great learning experience for them.

The girls tapped into our resources, parents, friends, family and community to let them know about our cause. Flyers in resident laundry rooms, stands in the front lawn, donation buckets everywhere. They were in front of stop-n-shop and Sam's club. They got donations from social media requests of people from out of the state, whom ordered online and the girls picked up in store.

Getting together as a troop is difficult at times, schedules, camp, vacation, trips, sports, etc.  The girls took to what our kids know best – Technology! Through parent Facebook accounts they had a video conference to discuss the status of the project, what each of them have contributed and keep the motivation and energy going.

While they understood that getting pencils and glue wouldn’t be so hard, the big ticket items were going to force them to be creative.  During the brainstorming, the girls had said that recycling cans and bottles would earn them some money to help acquire items that were not purchased.  As the girls were recycling their bottles and cans, they realized that if they helped other people with their recycling maybe they would donate the return to the girls and their cause – and it worked.

The deadline for collecting donations is this Sunday (7/30) at 11am.  The girls have also learned about money management and finding good deals, price matching and of course those apps that save you money.  When you are committed to making sure not just a few but ALL incoming Kindergarten students have the supplies they need, you have to learn to stretch that dollar.

After all the shopping is complete on Sunday, all the girls will gather to assemble the book bags and get ready for delivery to the Lois Bronz Community Center on Monday August 7th.  The official distribution of the book bags to the community kids will happen on August 9thfrom 1-3.  Some of our girls will be excused from camp and various activities to make sure they see the finale.  For more info  mail Amanikelly32@gmail.com.
