DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES ANNOUNCES

KICKOFF OF THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE

FAIRVIEW GREENBURGH COMMUNITY CENTER (TDYCC)

What started out in 1967 as a shell of a facility in the Fairview section of the Town of Greenburgh, the story begins at 306 Tarrytown Road, the inception of the "Greenburgh Youth Center".

50 years later, the Greenburgh Youth Center, renamed the Fairview Greenburgh Community Center in 1972, and then renamed the Theodore D. Young Community Center (TDYCC) in 1999, still remains the premier outreach facility within New York State and beyond. The current staff at TDYCC continue to be dedicated to the mission and goals set forth fifty (50) years ago. The Cornerstone of Greenburgh remains to be a viable and necessary resource for the Fairview community and neighboring municipalities.

The 50th Anniversary Kickoff will officially commence on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM with a parade featuring the Woodlands High School Brass Band. The parade will begin on Rosemont Blvd and proceed onto Tarrytown Road, pass the original site of the "first" Community Center (construction site of Harbor Freight Tools) and will end at 32 Manhattan Ave. "It’s only fitting that we honor and learn about our past. So many have worked, volunteered and sacrificed to realize a dream for a better quality of life for their community", says André G. Early, current Commissioner of the department. In addition, the department will host its 2nd Annual Block Party to highlight the 50th Anniversary events as well as summer programs immediately at the conclusion of the parade. Saturday’s event will be in conjunction with Union Baptist Church’s Building Block’s Party.

For additional information about the 50th Anniversary Kickoff, please contact Ms. Tina Harper at 914.989.3613/tharper@greenburghny.com
