What to do after a water main leak... more reference letters --experiences with solar
Release Date: April 22, 2017

During the past few days we have had a few water main breaks around the town. After a water main break, once water is restored to households, the water may be dirty. You should flush your line using cold water. Leave the water on for 20-25 minutes. Will help clear the water of sediment.   The dirty water is not a bacteria problem but a sediment issue.  Our water and pipes are treated continuously by the Greenburgh water department.

Our water is regulated by the Health department and EPA. We test our water every day at our pump stations and out in the system.   The town recognizes that our infrastructure is old. We are in the process of rehabilitating our water tanks and the  distribution system.  Water pressure could be reduced  and water could look discolored  during the rehabilitation process. The Edgemont water main break took place at the same time the water tank was being rehabilitated and caused considerable amount of discolored water. We sent crews out a number of times (day and evening) –after receiving complaints from residents—to try to address the problem.

We routinely test the water. It’s safe to drink. Those with immune system conditions might want to be more careful after a water main break.  We are determined to get our old water system upgraded. The Juniper Tank in Edgemont will be completed in about six weeks and won’t need to be repainted for another 20 years.

SOLAR EXPERIENCES...
More experiences with solar---Some of your neighbors have been installing solar panels on their roofs. I have been asking residents to highlight their experiences. The attached is what I have received so far (earlier this spring I reported that one resident saved about $1200 a year. The people who responded in the attached have saved --but the savings are less.  For the purposes of this e mail I have deleted their names. However- their letters (with names, contact info from those who authorized me to give out their contact info) is available at my office.
