FREE SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED TO VETERANS WHO WANT TO GET A JOB AS A MATH TEACHER

LOOKING FOR 5 QUALIFIED VETERANS TO ENROLL IN A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 
ENHANCE YOUR CHANCES OF OBTAINING A GREAT JOB AS A MATH TEACHER!
 
Dr. William Farber is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Mercy College. He is also a United States Veteran and a resident of the town.
He doesn't only talk about the need to help fellow veterans. He is actually doing something very positive that can help veterans get a scholarship and after graduation a terrific job as a math teacher.
To date, his program has selected five qualified veterans for this graduate program. He is able to offer scholarships to five additional qualified veterans.

 

OFFER TUITION FREE MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN SECONDARY MATH EDUCATION

TO THOSE VETERANS WITH STRONG MATH BACKGROUNDS

TUITION-FREE Master of Science Degree in Secondary Math Education leading to New York State certification, a credential recognized by many other states, and transitioning into a secondary math teacher.

The Mercy College program includes the following components:

•            36 graduate credits within 14 months of participation

              (All courses are ‘in-person’ and held at the Dobbs Ferry Campus)

•            A stipend of $32,800 for full tuition costs

•            140 days of clinical internship in a Yonkers public secondary school under the mentorship of an experienced

               math secondary school teacher

•            On-site clinical support from Mercy College faculty

•            One year of follow-up support at school sites and online

 

Requirements include the following components:

•            At least 24 credits in mathematics

•            GPA of 3.0 or better

•            Commitment to teach two years in a high-needs school

 

We strongly believe this program will provide veterans with a new gateway to a purposeful life in a deserving community. As important, we strongly believe that these mature men and women will provide qualities of leadership, strength and team work to the profession, improve capacity- building in their schools, and act as professional and personal role models for secondary school students. We also believe that this program will bring benefits to high need schools in terms of providing a new pool of STEM teachers.
