Recently Greenburgh signed an agreement with Sustainable Westchester that could lead to reduced Con Ed rates.  A bidding process was conducted and Sustainable Westchester has reached an agreement with an ESCO that will help Greenburgh residents save money on their bills. Sustainable Westchester asked that we not disclose the name until some more details are finalized -probably –sometime around mid March. Here is a summary....
1.      We conducted a successful energy bid process and have finalized terms for the Con Edison service territory (for over 90,000 homes and small businesses).
a.      18 municipalities with ConEdison service signed the contracts:
                                                    i.     Bedford (ConEd), Greenburgh, Hastings, Irvington, Larchmont, Mamaroneck (T), Mamaroneck (V), Mt Kisco, New Castle, New Rochelle, Ossining (T), Ossining (V), Pelham (V), Pleasantville, Rye Brook, Somers, Tarrytown, White Plains
2.      We are still finalizing terms for the NYSEG service territory (for another 20,000 homes and small businesses).
a.      4 municipalities with NYSEG service will sign that contract, assuming we finalize terms:
                                                    i.     Bedford, Lewisboro, North Salem, Somers.
3.      Prices for the Con Edison service territory for BOTH the default supply rate and the 100% renewable supply rate were BELOW the benchmark, which was the average Con Edison supply rate for the past 12 months.
a.      In other words, residents in the Westchester Smart Power Program will be saving money whether they stay with the default supply or if they opt up to the 100% renewable supply rate.
4.      These prices will be fixed for the next 24 months, starting in May 2016.

United Way has a help line that is terrific!  They  are finding that many  people are not aware that they can call 2-1-1 to get help with health and human services such as basic needs assistance, health care options, abuse prevention, drug recovery, mental health care, disaster resources and more.
 
United Way’s 2-1-1 is free to your constituents . During a disaster or local emergency, 2-1-1 also helps reduce non-emergency calls to 9-1-1 and provides a central place for up-to-the-minute information on shelters, warming stations, dry ice and other needs.

I was asked to encourage residents to attend the free screening of Josh Fox’s new film, “How to Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change” followed by a live Q & A with Josh Fox at the O’Byrne Chapel at Manhattanville College  Monday March 14^th at 6:30 PM. The writer continues his interrogation of the fossil fuel industry. This film presents a message of hope and creative possibility despite devastating climate change. The screening will connect local battles to oppose fossil fuel infrastructure  to the larger climate change movement.
