PLEASE WALK BICYCLES ON SIDEWALK SIGNS TO BE POSTED ON E HARTSDALE AVE THIS WEEK
  Many elderly residents live on E Hartsdale Ave. They walk to and from their apartments to downtown E Hartsdale Ave. Because E Hartsdale Ave is such a busy road, many cyclists bike on the sidewalk –sometimes cycling fast. It’s dangerous. If a bicycle hits an elderly resident there could be serious injuries.
  We plan to post signs on E Hartsdale Ave this week advising bicycle riders to WALK their bicycles on the sidewalk—not to ride their bicycles on the sidewalk.  If you see a bicyclist who is riding their bike on the sidewalk, please encourage them to walk. Many elderly and disabled residents will feel safer walking and won’t be worried that they will be hit by a bicyclist.
 
TOWN OF GREENBURGH CELEBRATING OUTSTANDING WOMEN TONIGHT FROM 5:30 TO 7:30 PM
The Town of Greenburgh will hold its Annual Women’s History Month Celebration later today - on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Greenburgh Town Hall, 177 Hillside Avenue. Co-sponsored by the United Nations Association – United States of America (UNA-USA), Westchester, the event will honor women from the town-entire, who, through community service, have helped to improve the quality of life for others.  Guest speaker, Dr. Brenda L. Galloway Smith, the non-Government Organization Representative to the United Nations, where she addresses issues of poverty, education, gender equality and health care, both nationally and internationally, will speak to the issues of the global status of women including the impacts of poverty, war and human trafficking.  Dr. Smith is the former Superintendent of the Mount Vernon City School District where she served for over thirty years as a teacher and Dean of Female Students prior to becoming one of the county’s most accomplished superintendents.
 
  Mistress of Ceremonies will be the Honorable Judge Janet Malone, Appointed NYS Supreme Court Justice, 9th Judicial District. Women to be honored are:
  Alicia Ford, Parkway Homes Civic Association President; Betsy Gelardi, Chief of Police-Village of Dobbs Ferry; Ruth Jacobs, Chairperson, Hartsdale Parking District and Member, Friends of Greenburgh Library;  Stephanie LaMonica, Volunteer with the Ardsley-Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corps and seeking her RN Degree; Rebecca (Becky) McGovern, Member of several commmuity Board including the Village of Tarrytown  Board of Trustees, Junior League of Westchester and Tarrytown Advisory Board to the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester; Janet Ocasio, Co-President, Transplant Support Organization Serving Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Bronx Counties and Southern Connecticut; Maria Portilla, Clinical Psychologist and Senior Social Case Worker with the  Westchester County Department of Social Services through which she has also devoted extensive volunteer service to educating the Hispanic community regarding domestic violence, child abuse/neglect and the impact on the family; Patricia Richards, recently retired from her position of General Foreman for the Town of Greenburgh, she was the first female in the history of the town to serve in this position, she has also dedicated countless hours of service at the Theodore D. Young Community Center as well as to helping the elderly; Jennifer Thompson, Management Executive with over 25 years of experience building high profile organizations in public & community affairs, media relations and facilities management, her service to the community has included motivating and mentoring high school students as well as helping to empower others through her involvement in faith-based organizations; and Emily Weiss, a member of the Ardsley-Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corps, who is devoted to helping save the lives of others.   This event is free and open to the public.  For further information, please contact Judith A.
