Release Date: March 19, 2015

JACKSON AVE AND SPRAIN ROAD TO BE MILLED IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS
MANHATTAN AVE, OLD TARRYTOWN ROAD, GREENVALE CIRCLE, SOUTHWOOD, EAST HARTSDALE AVE, OLD SAW MILL RIVER ROAD ALSO TO BE REPAVED –APPROXIMATE DATE: April
SIGNIFICANT  ADDITIONAL DOLLARS WILL BE ALLOCATED FOR MORE STREETS DURING REST OF  2015
…sorry for all the road incoveniences you’re experiencing during pothole season!
Jackson Ave and Sprain Road are in bad shape. We’ve been trying to repair the potholes on both streets as soon as we learn of the potholes. But, the cold patch asphalt we use haven’t worked very well. This is our next plan of attack.
We have reached out to our contractors and plan to mill Jackson and Sprain Road in about two weeks. We would have liked to do this sooner but are dependent on the contractors schedule. Once the road is milled the surface will be rough but it won’t be uneven and won’t create as difficult driving conditions as roads with potholes. We anticipate that the contractor will be able to do an emergency road repaving sometime by mid April.  Again—we’re dependent on the contractors schedules and we are waiting for the asphalt plants to begin making their normal asphalt mixes.  These past few months, asphalt plants make ‘winter-mix’ asphalt which is to be used as a temporary patch until the weather improves and a permanent repair can be made.  Unfortunately, permanent repairs cannot be done for roads until proper conditions permit.  We want to proceed as quickly as possible and will strive to provide good roads to motorists.
After this work is done we will complete the following roads—hopefully in April. Repaving dates are dependent on the weather and the contractors schedule. Some of the roads posted below were supposed to be repaved last year but weather conditions delayed the work till the spring.
1.         Manhattan Avenue-from Tarrytown Road to Old Tarrytown Road
2.         Old Tarrytown Road-from Manhattan Avenue to Hillside Avenue
3.         Greenvale Circle-from Tarrytown Road to Southwood Place
4.         Southwood Place-from Greenvle Circle to Juniper Hill
5.         East Hartsdale Ave-from Central Avenue to Columbia Avenue
6.         Old Saw Mill River Road-from 9A to the Landmark Building  able to do an emergency road repaving sometime by mid April.  Again—we’re dependent on the contractors schedules and want to proceed as quickly as possible.
I will be discussing with the Town Board during our work session on Tuesday the capital budget. I anticipate recommending that we allocate significant additional dollars to road repaving for the balance of the 2015 repaving season.  I think we will make significant progress in improving road conditions in the town  the summer and fall.
