I spent a few hours patrolling the streets of Greenburgh with Police Chief Chris McNerney. I anticipated an active night since Halloween was on a Friday evening --no school tomorrow. And the weather was not that cold. I thought there would be a lot of activity on the streets.  And, worried about the possibility of  mischief.

Fortunately, I'm not good at guessing. Halloween was very quiet in Greenburgh tonight. Very few complaints. Years ago Halloween night was one of the most active evening dates of the year. Lots of mischief. Vandalism. Property damage. The police department responded by allocating resources and increasing our police presence around town. Police headquarters reminded me of a war room --we sent a police bus to some streets, rounding up teenagers who were causing trouble. And stopped lots of kids with shaving cream or causing other problems.

Seems like Halloween gets quieter and quieter every year.   In fact, since there were almost no Halloween related complaints we had the opportunity to stop by at someone's house in Edgemont who had e mailed us a non Halloween related concern that we wanted to follow up on.

Hats off to the Police Chief and his team of dedicated police officers who do a great job keeping our community safe on Halloween night--and during the year.
