WHERE TO GET RID OF CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS NOW THAT COUNTY WON'T ACCEPT GREENBURGH C & D
Release Date: October 18, 2014

Earlier this week I sent out an advisory letting residents know that Westchester County WILL NOT accept construction debris. I received many calls and e mails from residents wondering what to do. I asked the Commissioner of Public Works Victor Carosi to prepare a memo that I could share with residents advising people of options.
This policy is a county policy---not a town policy. Until we received notification from the county we were happy to pick up almost anything.  I am sorry for the inconveniences that you and others may be experiencing.
PAUL FEINER

Paul,

As you are aware, the Town is was recently reminded by Westchester County that no construction related debris may be collected with our garbage.  Construction debris includes sinks, toilets, tile, plaster, roof shingles, wood, plywood, fencing, concrete, rubble, stones, bricks, asphalt, flooring material.

County staff are now checking each load of garbage from our Town garbage trucks and will assess fees or fines to the Town should any of this type of waste be collected by our crews.

Luckily, many private carting firms provide this service and residents can contract with any of these firms.  Also, several private waste processing facilities are in Westchester that can accept construction debris.

Attached is a list from the Westchester County web site of licensed private waste transfer stations, or you can use this link:

Also, a quick internet search using “construction waste disposal Greenburgh NY”  provided many opportunities for residents to arrange for collection of this debris.  Also local large box home centers such as Lowes and Home Depot, now offer debris bags – often called dumpster in a bag , as an alternative for construction waste collection.  Also, at least two national firms advertise waste lugging services and junk removal services.
