GREENBURGH LIBRARY HELPS HEARING IMPAIRED---DISABLED ADVISORY COMMITTEE IN FORMATION
Release Date: April 22, 2014

This Thursday, I will presenting a proclamation naming April 24, 2014 “Hearing Loss Association of America Day” in Greenburgh. Please join me at 9 a.m. in unveiling Greenburgh Library’s state-of-the-art looping system, which allows people with hearing loss to listen to and enjoy events that require PA systems. This is the first library in Westchester to receive this technology!

GREENBURGH DISABLED ADVISORY COMMITTEE RE-ACTIVATES---NEXT MEETING
WEDNESDAY, MAY 14  4:30 PM, Lee Jackson Room, Greenburgh Town Hall

Jack Fischer ( e mail gdac.ny@verizon.net ) has agreed to serve as chair of the Greenburgh Disabled Advisory Committtee. The committee will assist the town as we identify ways to make the town more accessible to those who have physical challenges.  The next meeting is going to be held on Wednesday, May 14th at 4:30 PM at the Lee Jackson Room, Greenburgh Town Hall. New members are welcome. E mail Jack or me if you'd like to join!

Jack was born with a birth defect. He's a graduate of Rider University and has worked with non profit organizations and disabled children. He worked for an international airline after college and helped the airline he worked for develop policies to ensure that the disabled travelers' needs were addressed. He put together the travel arrangements for the wheelchair users basketball team of the EPVA (Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, now known as United Spinal to take part in the Para Olympics in France).

After 45 years with the airline, he retired and volunteered for local non profit groups--helping the disabled. Last year, after the Greenburgh Disabled Advisory Committee was formed, Jack highlighted the inadequate disabled parking spots at the White Plains Hospital parking garage. A short time later the hospital brought the situation to ADA standards.

Among issues to be discussed: Should the parking area at the Greenburgh Library (circle) be redesigned to make it more accessible for the disabled/elderly population?  This year the town has committed to add disabled parking spots near the entrance to the Multipurpose Center, Anthony Veteran park--a location seniors meet at.
