SAD NEWS-HOWARD JACOBS, FORMER PRESIDENT OF LIBRARY BOARD PASSES....ARNOLD LAUBICH, PASSES
Release Date: April 03, 2014

Sad news…Howard Jacobs, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Greenburgh Public Library, passed away yesterday. Howard was the community leader most responsible for the expansion/construction of the new Greenburgh Library. He worked very hard on the initiative.  Before the expansion took place Howard led a successful effort –persuading NYS to fund a cyberbook mobile –enhancing library services for the community.  After Howard retired as Chair of the Board of Trustees, the Greenburgh Library Board voted to name a photography gallery in honor of Howard and Ruth Jacobs.   Howard and his wife Ruth have had a vision and commitment  celebrating amateur photography and photographers in Westchester County. They have sponsored an amateur photo contest at the library.

Howard was a former member of the School Board. He was a respected educator and was involved in many community activities (including the Dad’s Club) for many decades.   At our Town Board meeting next Wednesday night (which begins at 8:30 PM after a discussion on reassessment), the Town Board will  begin the meeting with a moment of silence in honor and in memory of Howard Jacobs.   The family will have a private service and they are planning a public memorial in the future—date to be announced.

More sad news…

Last week another giant in our community passed away. Arnold Laubich of Edgemont was a brilliant man. He volunteered his time helping the town acquire the Greenburgh Town Hall (we purchased a building that cost 12 million dollars for 6.8 million-with furniture). He provided advice to the Town Board during the library expansion planning process.  Arnold was appointed a Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Greenburgh during the Midway Shopping Center expansion review process. He was honored by the Greenburgh Town Board as a Citizen of the Month. Arnold also led the effort to discourage Edgemont residents from breaking away from unincorporated Greenburgh.  He was always ready and willing to help the town analyze complicated transactions. His advice was always appreciated and helpful.

The Town Board will start our meeting next Wednesday night in honor and in memory of Arnold Laubich.
