The Greenburgh Town Board will honor the winners of the Greenburgh Central School District spelling bee contest tonight at 7:30 PM. Harshita Shet won the big prize –and will be competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition later this year in Washington DC.

What makes a champion? I asked the school district to request each of the winners to share their bio’s with us ---highlighting their interests, hobbies, favorite subjects and career goals.  Our meeting tonight will be televised on local public access TV (cablevision channel 76 and Verizon channel 35).
 
We’re fortunate to have many smart children living in our town. The winners of the spelling bee competition have great futures ahead of them.

Hobbies – playing with toy trains, baseball, going to the park
Favorite subjects – science, physical education, reading
I want to be a veterinarian when I grow up

Interests – Barbie, lady bugs
Hobbies – ice skating, writing stories

Hobbies – basketball, cello, hockey

I want to be an athlete because I am always doing sports and I love it.  I also want to be a doctor and a scientist because I like math and science

Interests – art
Hobbies – African dancing
Favorite subjects – music and art
I want to be a teacher like my third grade teacher Mrs. Davenport

Interests – music, dance
Hobbies – African dance, violin, singing
