YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND OUR NEXT PLANNING MEETING --GREENBURGH NEIGHBORHOOD YOU TUBE VIDEO'S DECEMBER 5th at 7:30 PM

Greenburgh is a great place to live. We invite you to help us tell potential residents why Greenburgh is an amazing place. If we get the message out to the public more people might be more willing to pay top dollar when they buy a home so they can enjoy all that our community has to offer.

On Thursday evening December 5th at 7:30 PM we will hold our second planning meeting: creating Greenburgh neighborhood you tube video's. At our meeting on November 7th a suggestion was made to create a map of Greenburgh. Post the map on our website: www.greenburghny.com. People who want to learn more about different neighborhoods could click on to the video of the specific neighborhood and learn why that section of town is a desirable place to live in.

Carole Demas, Stuart Allyn and Danny Gold showed the attendees a draft video of the E Irvington community video that is currently being produced. This video will highlight the amazing parks and nature trails E Irvington is so proud of.


Why is Poet's Corner named for different poets? Nat J Federici, Mona Fraitag and Julienne Ryan will be discussing with their neighborhood Association some of the unique qualities that make Poet's Corner a great place to live.


Rudy & Laurel Rinaldi of E Hartsdale suggested that a video about E Hartsdale Ave could highlight E Hartsdale Ave's proximity to the train station, local highways and parkways, short commute to NYC and charming downtown shops and farmer's markets.

Tracy C. Mairs of Hillside/Wyndover and Jeff Barnes, who is PTA Council President for Greenburgh Central school district also came up with excellent suggestions for video's. Some neighborhoods around town are historic (did you know that Cab Calloway, Gordon Parks lived here?). We could have a you tube featuring the arts, our recreation programs, historic neighborhoods, school programs, shopping areas, etc...

You are invited to attend our next meeting. If you have a camera you can take your own videos about your neighborhood and show us a draft at our December 5th meeting. Or...you can bring a script to the meeting. George Malone, our cable TV coordinator and Janelle Wallace, who works with George, can tape you at a convenient time. They need a script. Tell us what sections of your neighborhood you want taped. And, who will be featured on the You Tube segment.


This initiative is going to be a long term initiative. We will keep adding more video's to the You Tube/Greenburgh website map. We will continue to encourage more people to produce the video's. We want the entire community to help us in our efforts to promote the best Greenburgh has to offer.

Last weekend the town aired about 120 half hour interviews of veterans on our public access TV station. Alan Hochberg and Steve Wittenberg started working on the living history initiative four years ago. They continue to interview more veterans every week. The living history tapes are being archived by the United States Library of Congress and the Greenburgh library. That initiative has become a real inspiration. Their effort is continuing. And as more veterans participate in the interviews, the living history tapes become more meaningful.

Brief Summary



The meeting was attended by residents from various communities within the Town of Greenburgh. Town Supervisor, Paul Feiner, opened the meeting by sharing his vision of engaging residents in highlighting the uniqueness of communities within the town with the running theme, “Greenburgh… A Great Place to Live.” After brainstorming ideas regarding the possible content of the videos, the following “suggested topics” were shared in an effort to establish a degree of consistency in each video. This list of topics, however, is not intended to be limited, as the main thrust for each video is to celebrate the quality of life in their respective communities. Paul expressed that he expects this project to be “… a continuing effort” that will require several months to complete.

The Arts: i.e., theater events in Irvington, well-known musical artists at the Tarrytown Music Hall, etc.

Location: Greenburgh is centrally located – less than 30 minutes from NYC, thus connecting to the NYC “megalopolis” and within close proximity of the Hudson Valley (“Gateway to HV”) for such activities as apple picking, tree cutting, visits to wineries,

Parks (incl. Golf Clubs) & Recreation (season-wide)

As a model for content, imagery and organization of presentation for videos, East Irvington Residents (Carol, Stuart, Danny Gold) presented a video that they created and are in the process of editing on the nature trails and parklands that are unique to their community. This served to generate more discussion, among meeting attendees, with regards to possibilities for their own videos.



Next Steps



Paul will continue “outreach” to communities/civic associations throughout the town. Carol and Stuart will conduct a special workshop on essential elements for a narrative at the next meeting, Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 7:30pm at Greenburgh Town Hall.
