I like to periodically profile some of your neighbors who are doing outstanding work.  Today, please meet Wendy Kreisberg, who lives in the Edgemont section of town for 23 years.  The Foundation Fighting Blindness, a national non-profit organization dedicated to finding treatments and cures for vision-robbing retinal diseases, recognizes  Wendy Kreisberg with its Volunteer of the Year Award for the Northeast Region. The annual honor acknowledges her excellent service in support of the Foundation’s mission to save and restore sight lost to retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Stargardt disease and Usher syndrome. 
 
Wendy Kreisberg has played a big role in transforming both the Foundation’s Westchester-Fairfield Chapter and local VisionWalk, determined to help find a cure for her son, Jeremy, who has the vision-robbing disease retinitis pigmentosa.  Her walk team, “Yes Eye Can,” has generated more than $66,000; and, as VisionWalk chair in 2011 and 2012, she rallied a huge jump in participation and funds raised.
 
Wendy's son, Jeremy, graduated from Edgemont High School.  While attending the University of Michigan, Jeremy was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a degenerative eye condition.  Presently there is no cure for this eye disease.  Since then, Wendy has made it her mission to find a cure for Jeremy.

Wendy's efforts have allowed Jeremy to focus his attention on his continued schooling.  For the past two years, he has attended Harvard Law School.  Jeremy spent his first law-school summer at the Office of Management and Budget, and he most recently worked at Williams & Connolly LLP as a summer associate.  After he graduates, Jeremy will serve as a law clerk for Judge Stephen R. Reinhardt of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  Jeremy is Wendy's hero and there is nothing that can stop him!
