Is the town better prepared to address hurricanes, emergencies? What did we learn from Sandy?
Release Date: April 18, 2013

Hurricane Sandy left thousands of Greenburgh residents without power for days. Roads were closed. Schools shut down. I have asked Richard Edelson, captain of the CERT team to provide the Greenburgh Town Board and community with a presentation. What have we, as a town, learned from the experience? How will we improve our emergency communications, responses the next time a major storm/hurricane/event hits Greenburgh? What is Con Ed going to do differently?
The presentation will take place at the Greenburgh Town Board meeting on Wednesday evening, April 24th at 7:30 PM. Our meetings are televised and also streamed on our website: www.greenburghny.com. Among speakers: the Police Chief. The Deputy Direction of the National Center for DisasterPreparedness at Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health. I have also invited Con Ed to the presentation--the first item on the Town Board agenda.

Subject: Update Presentation on Greenburgh's Preparedness - April 24th

Paul:

I am Captain of the Town of Greenburgh’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and as part of our Mission Statement, help educate residents about Emergency Preparedness.

On April 24th at Town Hall (7:30 PM) we have coordinated a short presentation with several speakers, to discuss some progressive preparedness planning which will benefit our Town.

The key speaker will be our Chief of Police Joseph DeCarlo, our Town’s Emergency Manager, who will discuss Greenburgh-related matters. Also on the agenda is the Deputy Director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, who will speak in more general terms.

I’m sure that it will be both interesting and informative for all who attend, hope you can spread the word.

Thanks, Richard Edelson
