Good news for Ardsley Volunteer Firefighters re: affordable housing
Release Date: October 23, 2012

Last week the Westchester County Board of Legislators gave its stamp of approval for the sale of the town owned foreclosed waterwheel property in Ardsley for $1.2 million to the town of Greenburgh for 22 units of affordable housing. Five of the units will be offered to Ardsley Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Corp members serving the village. The town has been partnering with the Village of Ardsley on this initiative for a number of years. Although the land is in Ardsley (and required Ardsley planning and zoning approvals), the town took possession of the property due to foreclosure.

If you drive near the Westchester County Center you may notice that another workforce housing development is being built. Significant construction progress has been made in recent months. Westhab is building 28 affordable, accessible apartments at 22 Tarrytown Road in Greenburgh, one block west of Central Avenue. They anticipate construction to be complete by summer 2013. The new complex is turning out to be very popular. So far 92 people have contacted WESTHAB expressing interest in moving into the workforce housing being built at 22 Tarrytown Road. They expect to begin taking applications in March 2013. They will send an application to everyone on the list. There will be a lottery to select tenants (required by NYS HCR) and hope to have tenants moving in by June.

There is obviously a need for affordable housing. It's our hope that both workforce/affordable housing initiatives will be attractive assets in our community.
