GREENBURGH LIBRARY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS TO HELP CHILDREN WITH HOMEWORK
Release Date: January 10, 2012

THE GREENBURGH LIBRARY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS TO HELP CHILDREN WITH THEIR HOMEWORK.  PLEASE SEE THE E MAIL BELOW FROM GENIE CONTRATA, DIRECTOR OF THE GREENBURGH LIBRARY.  IF YOU HAVE THE TIME AND ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING OUT—PLEASE ADVISE.

I AM TRYING TO HELP THE LIBRARY RAISE PRIVATE DOLLARS TO OFFSET BUDGET CUTS. IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO HELP WITH FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES- PLEASE ADVISE.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING E MAIL FROM THE RUTH KEELER LIBRARY IN NORTH SALEM. ALMOST 25% OF THEIR BUDGET COMES FROM PRIVATE DOLLARS!

WE NEED TO THINK OUT OF THE BOX –AND RAISE PRIVATE DOLLARS AND USE VOLUNTEERS. WE HAVE TO COMPLY WITH THE NEW TAX CAP LAW THAT WENT INTO EFFECT THIS PAST YEAR.

PAUL FEINER

The Library needs volunteers to help young children with their homework.  Right now we have no in-house homework help for children in grades 1 to 4.  If you get citizens expressing interest in volunteering at the Library this is the service we need the most.

Volunteers for homework help are needed weekdays 3 pm to closing and Saturdays.  Spanish speaking turtors would be espeically helpful.

Thanks

Genie

Subject: Library Funding

Dear Mr. Feiner,

Tim Purdy, president of our board, ask me to respond to the questions in your letter of January 3, 2012.

Close to a quarter of our $419,000 2012 operating budget is garnered through fund raising. We have information posted

in the library. We also talk about it at programs, include information  in our email newsletter, and send a

mailing to everyone who has given in the last few years. We do not now send a request to the entire town

because of the expense. I have been at the library since 2008 and the largest private donation since I have

been here was $25,000 - it was given by a former trustee and was structured as a matching grant. The estate

of Ruth Keeler gave the library more than $200,000 earlier to pay off the mortgage on the 2003 library addition.

I have few creative ideas for fund raising. I think tapping into local residents with the ability to give is best.

Our trustees write hand written notes to friends of theirs on the letters we send out.

Hope this helps,

Carolyn
